It was such a fun and definitely new experience to get to document this unique Toronto streetcar wedding that Jess and Steve planned and celebrated with their nearest and dearest. This was such a memorable way to make a commitment to the one you love – and it was even more special due to the fact that Jess and Steve’s first encounter took place on a streetcar – so what better way to bring the whole relationship full circle. I joined the ladies getting ready in Jess and Steve’s beautiful apartment where a delicious spread of food was waiting and, in what was a moment of kismet, I was told the the song playing on the playlist as I walked in was a beautiful tune by a French Canadian artist titled “Jeannette”. As Jess and her closest friend and family got ready to depart and head to the location where the streetcar – loaded with their guests and her awaiting groom – would pick us up, anticipation and excitement built as guests sent over pictures of the streetcar slowly filling up with people. Once we knew it was en route we packed up and headed out to meet our transportation and ceremony location! Live music filled the car, as well as the cheers and laughter of all of their closest friends and family. Shooting this ceremony was so challenging and so much fun. It’s a good thing I’ve taken my share of subway and streetcar rides because it was definitely an exercise in balance! With hands full of cameras there was no holding onto poles for support – it was a good leg workout for the day!
There were so many special touches to this day that called back to when Jess and Steve first met, including a location we got to shoot at after departing the streetcar at their dinner reception location. Walnut Studios was where Steve was working out of as an artist when him and Jess first met, so it was great to get to use this location as a backdrop for some of their portraits. After that we explored the area a bit, soaking in all of the sunset light. We ended by racing through a dog park (while I made sure to be on dog watch in case one decided to come our way!) to be able to capture the gorgeous sunset where it peaked out between some of the towering buildings of the city. After a few final shots with the sun drenched CN Tower in the distance outside of the venue, it was time to relax inside the Old York Bar for the reception dinner with a beautiful spread of homemade goodies.
