This Cobourg Beach engagement shoot was truly one for the books. The weather was gorgeous, the couple were naturals in front of the camera (despite telling me they weren’t photogenic! Can you believe that? They most definitely are!) and the Cobourg waterfront always makes for such a fun setting. And for these two, the location wasn’t just picturesque – it was sentimental, as it was where there relationship first began many years ago. I’m so excited to get to document Michelle and Ian’s wedding next summer. I had such a great time with them. This is one of the main reasons I encourage engagement shoots with my couples – they might go in not feeling comfortable in front of the camera, or worrying they aren’t photogenic, but this time gives us a chance to really give them some experience in front of the camera – to learn how I work, to get to interact together with the camera present before the big day, to relax and almost forget that I’m there for awhile. It really takes away a lot of the camera jitters before the wedding day. The icing on the cake was getting to take a trip into the marina to do some shots on Ian’s family’s former sailboat (now owned by a family friend). And the name of this particular boat couldn’t be more fitting – “At Last”. I’m told this is a common theme among friends and family of the couple who are so excited that they are finally tying the knot after many years together as a couple.
